    Sons Of Our Church Who Have

 

              Become Ministers

Upper left-Arthur D. Johnson, son of Rev W.H. Johnston (former pastor). He attended Missouri Valley College & Cumberland University Seminary. 

 

Upper right-Robert Lincoln Shepherd, married Maggie Johnston,duaghter of Rev. W.H. Johnston. He attended Missouri Valley College & Cumberland University Seminary, & was a professor at Missouri Valley College & also preached.     

Middle left- Ralph D. Evans received the B.S. degree at Kirksville State College (now Truman State University) & in 1933, graduated from McCormick Theological Seminary (Chicago). His ordination was at La Plata Community Church. In 1951, he received his doctorate at the College of Emporia, Emporia, Kansas. 

 

Middle right-Dr. George P. Baity was the first student to receive a B.A. degree from Missouri Valley College at Marshall, MO(1981). He worked his way through the Presbyterian School at Lebanon, TN. He served only one church for 50 yrs., the Westport Presbyterian Church in Kansas City. 

 

Lower left-John (Jack) Kurtz, son of Mr. & Mrs. Paul Kurtz, was ordained in our Church May 28, 1963. He graduated from Missouri Valley College with a B.A. degree & received the B.D. degree from McCormick Theological Seminary (Chicago).

 

Lower right-Ronald E Wallen, Son of Phillip & Madeline Wallen, graduated from Culver-Stockton College with a B.A. degree. At Princeton Theological Seminary, he received the B.D. & M.A. degrees. He was ordained in 1970.    

DID YOU KNOW....

  • The original hand carved pulpit chairs, donated by Mr. & Mrs. W.T. Gilbreath, and used in the 1st church, still exist.

  • The Campbell sisters donated the pulpit and pulpit chairs to the new church.

  • Community Presbyterian has an almost exact building copy in the former Perry, MO, Presbyterian.
