                                         Friday Morning Men’s Small Group

The Friday Morning Men’s Small Group started in 1998 for men to get together for breakfast, Bible study, and fellowship at Grandma’s Cafe in LaPlata (at 6 AM). The group believed that small groups are a way to help bind our members together and, as a result, will strengthen our church. Duane Turner was the leader. The group met every week, except the 5th Friday of the month. On the 5th Friday, they took their wives out to dinner at a fine restaurant. They studied each book of the New Testament, the book of Deuteronomy, the book of Isaiah, as well as other books in the Old Testament. One of their projects was that they raised $3,000 to benefit a La Plata resident with a large medical and hospital bill in 2003. In 2009, they helped the community to raise over $6,000 to help Dawn Love with some of her expenses while she was battling cancer. Also in 2009, the Small Group rang the bell for the Salvation Army in the C & R Store. It was a rewarding experience for the members and the LaPlata people were very supportive. In 2012, there were major changes in the Small Group. With the closing of Grandma’s Café, the location was changed to the church parlor and Pastor John Becker took the lead to continue the Bible Study. The group changed their meeting time to Monday nights at 7 PM.
